At present, the development of touch screen technology is showing the following trends
Jan 08,2025
1. The flexibility of the screen will be better and the clarity will be further improved
People's requirements for touch screens are increasing, from low resolution to high resolution, from poor transparency to good transparency. E-Ink, an American company, has always been at the forefront of the touch screen industry, and its research and development of electronic paper as a new type of touch screen material has been favored by many research institutions. Electronic paper technology includes three aspects, namely cholesterol liquid crystal display technology, electrophoretic display technology, and electro wetting display technology. The material used for electronic paper is electronic ink (E-ink), and many microcapsules are suspended in the e-ink. The diameter of these microcapsules is about 10-4 meters wide, and within 1 square inch, the number can reach 100000. The interior of microcapsules is composed of a mixture of dye and pigment chips, which undergo corresponding changes when they are electrified. Due to the excellent flexibility and low electrode consumption of electronic paper, many companies are also committed to research and production in this area, such as Kodak, Toshiba, Motorola, Canon, Epson, Guangzhou Osho, and so on. People are applying electronic paper technology to fields such as electronic newspapers, e-books, electronic watches, etc. [11], making users increasingly appreciate the portability and fun of electronic products.
2. The development of screen materials is advancing rapidly
Both resistive touch screens and capacitive touch screens use ITO materials, which are gradually being replaced by materials such as metal grids, nano silver wires, carbon nanotubes, conductive polymers, graphene, etc. [12]. Among them, the conductivity of metal grids and nano silver wires is better than ITO, providing people with more choices.
3. Multi touch technology
Multi touch is another development direction for touch screens. The well-known mobile phone image zooming in and out can be achieved through two-point touch. At present, there are several types of multi touch technologies. Jefferson Han proposed the suppressed total internal reflection multi touch technology in 2006. This technology uses the principle of total reflection of light to store infrared light in acrylic sheets. If the surface of the screen changes, the infrared light also changes, forming touch points; Scattered light illumination multi touch technology is developed by Microsoft, which evenly distributes light on the surface of a glass screen. When a finger touches the screen, the light changes, thereby determining the position of the touch point; Laser planar illumination, scattered light planar illumination, and light-emitting diode planar multi touch technology are three types of technologies that use different light rays to form the surface of a touch screen. Their principles are similar to the first two and will not be repeated.
At present, multi touch screens can reach up to 500 simultaneous touches, which puts high demands on the speed and accuracy of the processor, making the cost relatively expensive. Multi touch applications are very widespread and can be found everywhere in schools, hospitals, and factories. With the breaking of technological barriers, prices will become increasingly user-friendly.
